Lean into the unexpected and let curiosity lead the way. The KC Quirky Trip invites you to explore the region’s most offbeat, intriguing, and delightfully unusual stops, all in one free, self-guided experience. With eight unique sites unlocked through the Otocast app, this digital passport turns the somewhat strange and wonderfully peculiar corners of Kansas City into an adventure worth talking about. Here’s a sneak preview to get you started on your journey.

Kansas City, KS

All aboard! Fritz's Railroad Restaurant is a quirky and quintessential Kansas City experience that's been capturing the heart of locals and visitors for more than 70 years. The railroad themed diner opened its second KCK location in the 1960s, and it still serves up all the old fashioned shakes, burgers and crinkle cut fries today!

Kansas City, MO

Children and adults are equally intrigued by the unique objects at the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures in Kansas City. The quirkiest display features a pair of fully dressed fleas that can be viewed under a microscope. Other exhibits include a 1:12 scale pair of dueling pistols that are one inch long and function, a nine-foot tall dollhouse, and a Victorian swimming doll.

Leavenworth

Would you like a selfie with a two-story-tall Mr. Spock? A mural in Leavenworth beckons visitors to Gators Games and Hobby (720 Shawnee Street), a shop for table-top games, gaming supplies and tournament nights. Be sure to read Gators’ rules held up by Spock’s Vulcan Salute: “In this place, we believe in magic,” customers are told before they enter the shop through a replica of Doctor Who’s iconic Tardis. For more quirky stops around “the First City of Kansas,” consider Leavenworth’s Mural and Statue Safari, where you’ll meet buffalo soldiers, suffragists and a toothy mascot of a local bowling alley.

Olathe

Browse through Junque Drawer and its three floors’ worth of home décor and accessories—all housed in a beautifully restored 1920’s home.

Overland Park

Step back in time at this historically-accurate 1950s all-electric ranch house, located inside the Johnson County Museum. Built in 1953 by the region's electric company, this five-room house exemplified ideals about “modern American family living” and the dream many Americans were seeking in moving to the suburbs after World War II.

Merriam, KS

Tucked into downtown Merriam, Gemini is part shop, part sanctuary, and entirely its own vibe! Here, you can admire shimmering Arkansas crystals or breathe in the scent of hand-poured candles and earthy bath salts. If you’re ready to fully lean into your inner Zen, the Himalayan salt spa offers a quiet, glow-filled escape. Whether you’re crystal-curious or in need of the perfect place to reflect and recharge, Gemini is a refreshingly different shop located at 5807-5809 Merriam Drive.
