Outdoor Family Fun!
There are an abundance of activities planned across the Kansas City metro area that will help get you and your family out of the house and exploring the city!
To kick off the summer, Merriam has launched Just Right Sunshine which is a fun filled Sunshine Scavenger Hunt. Check out this promotion to make a day of exploring this Northeast Johnson County city. Kansas City is well known for its area parks and two of the most popular offer a variety of activities. On the most western side of Kansas City, the awe-inspiring Shawnee Mission Park offers a 53-acre dog off-leash park, disc golf and horseback riding. The Northland also has one of the most popular area lakes, Smithville Lake, which hosts Northland Outdoor Adventures that offers rentable kayaks and paddleboards. These aren’t the only two options for parks in KC. There are so many all over KC it’s impossible to list them all! Check out each of our destinations’ websites to find out more!
Adult Time – Beer & BBQ
Outdoor activities with the family makes for a great way to soak up the sunshine, but one of the best pairings with sunshine is none other than the magical beverage – beer. Kansas City’s craft beer scene is thriving with many different options for a summertime brew. Johnson County has grown its craft beer offerings in recent years, even months, as Olathe now hosts the relocated Red Crow Brewing Company. Moving just 10 minutes north up Johnson County you’ll find Limitless Brewery in Lenexa and then only another 10 minutes north again in downtown Shawnee Servaes Brewing Company and Transport Brewery have recently opened up shop. Want to take your beer passion to the next level? Make a trip to Leavenworth’s High Noon Grinders for Beer Yoga sometime this summer.
Craft Beer doesn’t just stop in Johnson County and if you’re a true craft beer enthusiast you must check out the Kansas City Tap Tour, which is Visit KC’s $10 limited-time passport that offers local craft brewery discounts and prizes for purchasing brews at many of the locations. All that beer will have you working up an appetite, and Visit KC also has you covered there with it’s KC BBQ Experience App. This free app lists every single (yes every single) BBQ Restaurant in the Kansas City area. Think you can hit up all 100+ joints this summer?
