MERRIAM

You can discover art around every corner in Merriam! Check out BASK, by artist Blessing Hancock in the courtyard at the Merriam Community Center; this sculpture incorporates words collected from Merriam residents describing their community, and it comes alive with color-changing lighting at night. If you prefer a gallery setting with rotating pieces, make plans to visit the monthly exhibits on display at the Tim Murphy Art Gallery. Come see the bear sculpture called “Motherhood” by Kwan Wu at Merriam Historic Plaza. KANSAS CITY, KS

Kansas City Kansas is a city of murals celebrating our rich diversity. In Kansas City, KS, The Avenue of Murals project includes eight murals in a four-block corridors along Minnesota Avenue.

LENEXA

Lenexa has been building its public art collection since the early 1980s. It includes 2D and 3D pieces located throughout the city on public property and features artwork created by local, national and international artists. LEAVENWORTH Creative Blossoming, located at 505 Cherokee St., is a new art store in historic downtown Leavenworth that specializes as a studio/gallery/gift shop with an artistic flare. There are several local artists that display their creative wares and quirky art pieces which are for sale in the gift shop. Meredith Thompson, the owner, hopes that people will opt for adding some color into their lives. With both unique sculptures and functional items, you are sure to find the perfect piece to make your own. BONNER SPRINGS Bonner Springs has an active and thriving arts community. The Arts Alliance focuses on both physical art and intellectual art. This month, they are hosting a creative writing discussion for people interested in writing but not sure how to start. The discussion will be held in-person at the Bonner Springs City Library at 201 N Nettleton on March 14 from 6-7:45 p.m. Additionally, the Arts Alliance Gallery is open to the public on the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check out their Facebook page for details: https://www.facebook.com/bonnerspringsartsalliance


LIBERTY Head to Liberty, MO to check out the 6th annual Rotating Sculpture Program installation featuring nine sculptures throughout historic downtown Liberty.
