Foodie February...dine around KC Destinations!

Don’t let the cold weather get you down this month. Warm up with any number of comforting food and drink options around the Kansas City area. Take a tour of the KC region, stopping at several locations or spread out your visits, either way you can’t go wrong.

Start things off in the Northland at The Fish Market in Liberty. Serving up "Bahamiana" Cuisine, they have a unique spin on inspiration from both the Bahamas and south Louisiana. The Fish Market is one of the only spots to find fried alligator, plus other favorites like gumbo, jambalaya, fish tacos and more. The Fish Market is located at 1120 E. Old MO 210, Liberty, MO, 64068.

Then make your way to downtown Kansas City (MO) and pick up some of the best chocolates in town at Christopher Elbow Artisanal Chocolate. Gourmet chocolate with touches of Spanish saffron, French lavender and fresh rosemary is only the start of what you’ll find here. His whimsical designs, use of color and creative flavors will surprise and delight even the most experienced of chocoholics. Just ask Food & Wine; the magazine named Elbow’s “No. 6 Dark Rocks” as its favorite chocolate bar in America. You’ll find Elbow’s artistic creations at the company’s retail store, as well as Halls Kansas City and fine-chocolate retailers nationwide. Christopher Elbow Chocolates is located at 1819 McGee St., Kansas City, MO 64108. www.elbowchocolates.com

From there it’s on to Kansas City, KS to embark on a culinary adventure with the relatively new KCK Taco Trail, which includes nearly 50 local taquerias featuring street tacos, Tex-Mex style tacos and more. Zip back down to the heart of Johnson County for your next stop, or simply enjoy these locations on their own.

Start by grabbing tacos at Sancho’s Streetside, which isn’t just your typical taco joint. Their tacos are made over a wood fired grill and they offer a variety rivaled by few in the area. Located in downtown Shawnee this humble and intimate joint will surprise you with flavor packed options on their menu! One suggestion: GET THE NACHOS! They’re perfect to share with a taco or two as your meal. Sancho Streetside is located at 11101 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, KS 66203. https://www.sanchostreetside.com/

Your next stop is at the Lenexa Public Market where the newest member of Lenexa’s growing family of small business food vendors has popped up--Butterfield’s. Founded by Kate Smith of Kate Smith Soiree, you can still enjoy macarons and other delectable desserts, along with soups, sandwiches, a kids menu, weekend brunch and milkshakes. Kate still does catering as well and everything is out of the Butterfield’s location. Butterfield’s Bakery & Market is located in the Lenexa Public Market at 8750 Penrose Lane, Lenexa, KS 66219. https://www.butterfieldskc.com/

Our last location in the heart of Johnson County is in Merriam, KS. If food is love, then Strawberry Hill Povitica will melt your heart! Locally-made, this hand-baked dessert bread comes in over a dozen flavors and is shipped all over the country. In fact, it often sells out when featured on the popular home-shopping network QVC. Just a little further south, down in the fast-growing community of Gardner, KS you’ll find some of the best burgers around at Blazers Restaurant. Hand-pattied, grilled fresh and ideally enjoyed with a hand-spun milkshake, this is the type of classic burger joint that everyone can enjoy. Don’t miss their daily specials.
