Spring is coming, so start planning to get outside! The Kansas City Metro is full of hidden gems for kids from parks to splash pads and more! Here are a few of our favorites:



Merriam, Kansas Enjoy wild west themed play time at the famous Dodge Town play area in Merriam! Located inside Antioch Park, Dodge Town is a rootin’ tootin’ good time with themed buildings including a schoolhouse, bank, pony express, city hall with a clock tower, general store, blacksmith shop, horses and cows, and a train station complete with a shaded seating area for parents. Take a photo with Astra, Dodge Town’s resident horse while visiting. The play area also features two adjoining accessible playgrounds and a picnic shelter for birthday parties and groups. Lenexa, Kansas This destination playground includes a nature play area with a play stream (runs daily for an eight-hour time period from May to mid-October), sandbox, log stepping, and boulder climbing. It is located in Becker’s Woodland at Black Hoof Park. Liberty, Missouri Liberty Parks & Rec unveiled an all new inclusive playground and spray ground at City Park in November 2021, designed with kids of all abilities in mind. The playground and spray ground are both wheelchair accessible and the playground includes several wheelchair accessible amenities as well as a swing bay, musical instruments, climbers, and several slides. The spray ground will open for the season over Memorial Day weekend.

Olathe, Kansas Lake Olathe is home to various types of playgrounds and outdoor fun for all ages! First, Lake Olathe is home to an adventure filled natural playground. It boasts a rock cave, living willow dome, meadow maze, climbing tree, and more! The spray ground has three areas, designed for multiple age grounds. Splashing in the creek and spray ground to cool off on a warm spring day! The aqua park opens in May featuring floating obstacle course over the Lake, located next to the swim beach.
