Here's your guide to public art gems across the area so you can plan your own art-filled adventure.


Bonner Springs

Did you know that standing in a "superhero" pose daily for just a few minutes can help you feel more confident and powerful? In Bonner Springs, home of the Bonner Braves, we have a public mural celebrating the inner superhero in all of us. At 204 Oak Street, a local artist created the "Be Brave" mural and we encourage visitors to try the superhero pose when they walk by. Check out our other public mural at 200 Oak Street paying homage to the importance of water to the growth of our community.


Kansas City, Kansas (KCK)

In Kansas City, KS, The Avenue of Murals project includes eight murals in a four-block corridors along Minnesota Avenue. These murals highlight the culture and individuality of the communities that live and work in Kansas City, KS. Each mural tells a different story of the people who have settled in the area.One honors the importance of family and culture in the African American community, while another is a tribute to Mexican folklórico dancing. Others paint portraits of lives that have been led in the city throughout the years. But the murals don't stop on Minnesota Avenue - walk or drive around just about any neighborhood and you might find another new painting to appreciate. Explore more

In Kansas City, public art is in plain view, no matter where you're standing. Leavenworth

You can learn about the people, places and events that contributed to Leavenworth’s illustrious past through our Mural & Statue Safari. You can walk or drive this self-guided tour of some of our favorite landmarks — it stretches less than a mile from north to south, and half a mile east to west. Favorite stops include works done through the First City Passageways Project, which spruces up downtown business facades with whimsically painted sunflowers, waving wheatfields and more. But the most iconic stop on the tour awaits outside a local gaming store, Gators: A towering portrait of Mr. Spock of “Star Trek” fame flashing his Vulcan salute and inviting visitors to “live long and prosper.” Plan your visit


Lenexa

The City of Lenexa has been building a public art collection since the early 1980s. It includes two- and three-dimensional pieces located throughout the city on public property and features artwork created by local, national and international artists. See the full collection


Liberty

Commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Lewis & Clark expedition, head to Liberty, MO to check out this mural on the side of the on the Clay County public safety building at the corner of Mill and Water Streets. It depicts the Corps of Discovery's landing just south of Liberty on the Missouri River. Learn more
