Photo Op Spots Across KC!

Looking for a great place to snap a selfie with friends? How about a new place to hone in your photography skills? Maybe it’s time to round up the family for the annual holiday card photo. Whether you feel like SnapChattin’ or playing with a new filter, the KC region has a great collection of photo-worthy spots across the metro.



Atchison, KS recently celebrated the grand opening of Commercial Street, its newly renovated Downtown area. Snap a selfie while exploring one of your favorite shops or enjoying a meal at a local restaurant.


Snap a selfie with your dripping cones in front of the popular mural in downtown Shawnee. Located on the west side wall of Aunt Jeans Gelateria, the Made in Shawnee, KS mural is a popular photo spot for ice cream enjoyers. With the bold background and fun cone icon marking Shawnee’s location, it makes for a great family or friends photo op. Need a new Instagram photo? The Museum at Prairiefire in Overland Park is an actual work of art. This is a go-to backdrop for anything from vacation selfies to professional photo shoots, and will leave your Instagram followers in awe. Head inside for a change of scenery and get a selfie with a full-size T-Rex skeleton.


Enjoy an amusing photo shoot in downtown Merriam, KS at the fun “Planting the Seeds” sculpture located at 5740 Merriam Drive. The reflective and shiny pods will capture mirror-like pics reminiscent of the famous “Bean” in Chicago. Fun for a group pic or a selfie, come out and start snapping away. If you visit on a Saturday, visit the farmers’ market (Sat mornings through Sept. 25) or grab a quick walk on the beautiful Turkey Creek Streamway Trail which connects just over the bridge. “Interconnections” is a set of three 23-foot tall mosaics celebrating the letters of the alphabet found inside the Lenexa City Center Library in Lenexa, KS. The creator is Stephen T. Johnson, Caldecott Honor children’s book author/illustrator who lives and works in Lawrence, KS. This work of art is part of the Johnson County, KS Public Art Collection. Leavenworth, KS abounds with photo ops! The Lovingworth mural is one of the newest selfie spots for you to impress your friends and family. The angel wings on the north side of the Candle Queen Candles Boutique on Shawnee Street are a favorite of many young and old, plus many more around town.
